CAD Mechanical Design Engineer

A-2-Sea is offering an exciting opportunity to be part of this specialised and vital industry.

A-2-Sea is a global telecommunications cable shore end and shallow water installation organisation. For nearly 20 years, A-2-Sea has been providing expert cable engineering, jointing, shallow water system installation and cable maintenance services to the global subsea community, including the ongoing design and development of specialised cable joints, injection moulding equipment, power grounding units and x-ray inspection systems.

A-2-Sea are looking to recruit a CAD Engineering Draughtsman to undertake the following duties:

• Conceive and produce 3D parametric models/assemblies in line with design specifications.
• Create 2D electro/mechanical engineering detail drawings to BS 8888 for manufacturing and assembly purposes.
• Accurately measure and reproduce existing parts/equipment as 3D models and assemblies.
• Updating existing drawings in line with the company’s ISO 9001 quality system.
• Liaise with various sub-contractors during the manufacturing and build process.
• Liaise with cable engineers to explore (through CAD) possible product design improvements.
• Use CAD to assist in other areas of the company’s business activities.

The successful candidate will:

• Demonstrate experience in the required duties (above).
• Be proficient in the use of SolidWorks and have moderate experience with AutoCAD.
• Have at least 2 years full-time CAD experience (this may include experience gained whilst studying).
• Have proven experience in working as part of a team.
• Have a good knowledge of material selection, fabrication methods and machining capabilities for electro/mechanical manufacturing purposes.
• Have a good understanding of part selection and compatibility.
• Be willing to get involved in ‘hands on’ build and installation tasks.
• Have aspirations to expand the company’s use of CAD

The role:

• Is largely office based (in Romsey) with possible site visits.
• Hours are from 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 13:00 on Fridays.
