Vessel Crew – Master

A-2-Sea has a position of Master available for those seeking the challenge and reward of a successful, expanding and busy Survey Department. The aim is to bring a professional and experienced individual into a team, someone who will be able to manage all aspects of the vessel and maintain the operational readiness whilst the Company is on contract to its long-standing clients. The successful candidate would ensure the overall safety of the crew and onboard personnel (through the vessels safety management system and company policies) and training and familiarisation of all personnel, carrying out drills at sea and alongside in harbour.

Contract type: Permanent basis on a 3 weeks rotation – contract negotiable.

Vessel type: 20 to 24 m survey vessels. Total engine power 850 to 1860 Kw. Operating on a 24 hours basis.

The role and responsibilities would include:

  • Safety of all personnel on board.
  • Ensuring that the appropriate paperwork and logs are completed in a timely manner.
  • Safe operation and navigation of the vessel, operational readiness of all navigation systems and maintenance of an adequate inventory of updated charts and navigation publications.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing the passage plan.
  • Ensuring that watch officers are familiar with the “Rules of the Road” and that the vessel is operated in compliance with these rules.
  • Maintaining professional proficiency and knowledge of the operation of all ship systems.
  • Understanding all aspects of ship handling.
  • Overseeing the training of all crew members.
  • Maintaining the seaworthiness of the vessel in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Inspecting the vessel and making sure all weekly and monthly checks are carried out.
  • Prepare and post a Station Bill, Standing Orders and Night Orders.
  • Security of the vessel when in port.

The successful candidate would require:

  • MCA Master 200
  • MCA ENG1 Medical
  • STCW safety training – minimum EFA, FP&FF, PST + PSSR including refresher courses
  • GOC or ROC
  • Navigation – Radar and ECDIS training
  • Stability – approved Stability Course for Workboats
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as master of similar vessels
  • Experience onboard survey or research vessels
