A-2-Sea's apprenticeship programs provide the perfect way to get started in this exciting and rapidly-growing industry.

Our apprenticeship programs offer the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in a variety of areas, from cable installation and repairs to engineering and manufacturing. Our cable technicians work on some of the most technically challenging and interesting projects in the world, installing and repairing submarine cables that carry vital communications traffic across oceans.

We encourage people of all backgrounds and experiences to apply. A-2-Sea is currently seeking applications for two types of apprenticeships, Cable Technician and Development & Manufacturing Engineer.

Cable Technician:

The role of a Cable Technician requires excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be working as part of a team to carry out repairs and maintenance on submarine cable systems, as well as assisting with the installation of new cables.

The apprentice role involves training and preparation for:

  • Fibre optic cable testing
  • Shallow water fibre optic submarine cable installations
  • Terrestrial fibre optic cable installations
  • Fibre optic submarine cable system maintenance (including emergency call-out operations)
  • Out-of-service submarine cable recovery operations
  • Manufacturing of bespoke equipment to support the submarine cable industry

Development & Manufacturing Engineer:

The Apprentice Development and Manufacturing Engineer will work within the engineering team assisting with the design, manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning of bespoke equipment for the submarine cable industry.

The apprentice role involves training and preparation for:

  • Injection moulding runs and profile optimisation.
  • Mechanical and structural material analysis. 
  • Audit and verification of bespoke components.
  • Equipment assembly and testing.
  • Commissioning of X-ray inspection systems.
  • Process evaluation and optimisation development.
  • Manufacturing of bespoke equipment to support the submarine cable industry
